Email marketing automation is the process of sending automated emails based on your audience’s behavior. It lets you turn your leads into customers and customers into brand advocates who’ll rave about you whenever they can! Email marketing automation is actually a marketing cylinder where your leads can get into a relationship with your business.

In this article, you will get a detailed walkthrough creating an email marketing automation funnel with CRM.

Before you start #

CRM’s email marketing automation includes four major elements. These are:

  1. Triggers: Triggers are essential for initiating email marketing automation. They can be behavior-based, or time-based. Learn more about CRM’s Triggers here.
  2. Action Blocks: The actions which will be done throughout the funnel for example sending an email, adding the user into a list, etc. Learn everything about CRM Action Blocks here
  3. Benchmarks: Benchmarking the behavior of the users for example whether they purchased a product, clicked into a link, etc. Learn everything about CRM Benchmark Blocks here
  4. Conditionals: Conditionals will let you set multiple paths based on if/else conditions. Learn more about CRM Conditionals here.

From CRM dashboard, select Funnels and click on the “Create a new Funnel”.

Select the Automation Trigger #

Now a pop-up will comes up to select the Automation Triggers. You have to carefully select the automation triggers you want. Learn more about all the automation triggers here. In this article, we will continue with WordPress triggers. This automation funnel will trigger whenever a user is signed up into your WordPress site.

Click continue and you will be into the screen from where you can add the Action Blocks and Benchmark Blocks into your Funnel.

Add Action Block #

Click on the plus icon and a pop-up will open with all the action blocks and benchmarks blocks available. Learn more about all the available Action Blocks and Benchmark Blocks. For this article, I am going to select the Wait for X Day/Hours Action Block into the funnel. So whenever a user registers with the WordPress site, The funnel will wait for the specified Days/Hours.

Now select the number of days or months the funnel should wait to go to the next step. After specifying the wait time and wait time unit save the settings.

Now the funnel dashboard will look like the below screenshot. The user registered for the site and the automation funnel is started for the user. A three days time delay has been added into the automation. Now select your next step of this automation. It can be a customized email, adding the user into a list, selling a product, etc.

Although all the available action blocks and benchmark blocks have been described separately, also in this article for demonstration purposes some more steps will be added.

Add a Benchmark #

Let’s add a customized Email Action Block and a Link Click Benchmark into this funnel. The use case is, an email will be sent to the user with a link and the automation will track whether the user clicked into the link or not.

Add into the plus icon to add the Email Action Block into the automation.

Now customize the email based on your requirements. Choose Send email To as “Send to Contacts” for this funnel. Send to custom email address is useful in some other use case but not recommended here. Give a subject to the email and also an appropriate pre-header for the email. From the Email Body, choose the little setting icon for basic styling, for example, color, fonts, etc. Also, select the template structure from the Email Body or custom code with raw HTML. Lastly, add the body content for the email using the block editor. You can add text, images, buttons etc. A button has been added also with the title “Download Free EBooks Now”. The link of the button will be added later, after adding the Click Link Benchmark so that we can track the link.

Now add a Benchmark action named Link Click.

A pop up will open and a link will be provided automatically. You will need to select the redirect URL so that the user will land on a valid page after clicking into the link. Also, select a benchmark type. The essential benchmark will stop the automation if the link is not clicked.

Now copy the provided link and go back to the previous email action trigger and add the link into the button “Download Free Ebooks Now”

add tracking link into the funnel fluentcrm

Now you can add more action blocks and benchmark blocks into the funnel for example add the user into a list. If you made the benchmark type essential then the other actions after the benchmark will continue only if the user is clicked into the links.

This is how you can create a funnel, add action blocks, do the behavioral benchmark, and continue to other steps based on the result of the benchmarks.

Funnel Reports: CRM funnel report shows the data collected for the funnel including conversion rates and the overall performance of the funnel. Go to the Funnel dashboard and select the reports of the funnel you want to see. #

CRM has chart type report, step report, and also individual reporting. Analyze the report and take the necessary actions needed based on the report.
